About Us
Whareongaonga 5 Blocks Trust (W5) is an Ahu Whenua Trust registered under the Māori Land Court with a total of 1949.82 hectares. The Trust was formed by the Māori Land Court as a consolidated land block with 2,608 shareholders at that time.
The Whakapapa of shareholders covers across many iwi, including Ngai Tāmanuhiri, Rongowhakaata, Ngāti Kahungunu and Rakaipaaka. With almost 3,000 shareholders, the Trustees face challenges connecting and engaging with our growing whanau.
Historically, the Trust has been involved in farming (grazing) and lease arrangements on half of the land block. The Trust has received their first round from a 3 x 3 forestry contract, with Hikurangi Forest Farms. Since then have been looking forward to starting a nursery.
